The Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan announced the country's intention to chair the Non-Aligned Movement from 2027 to 2029.

Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov revealed a historic milestone for the country: Uzbekistan plans to host the 20th Non-Aligned Movement Summit and lead the organization from 2027 to 2029. The statement was made following the ministerial meeting of the organization, held on the sidelines of the UN Summit of the Future, which took place on September 22–23 in New York, reports Podrobno.uz.

The Uzbek Foreign Minister emphasized that the main focus will be on key priorities such as energy security, sustainable development, and strengthening global trade systems.

"We are committed to promoting peace, addressing climate change challenges, and supporting the next generation through education. Together, we can tackle the challenges of our time and amplify the voice of the Global South," Bakhtiyor Saidov noted.

He also expressed unconditional support for Uganda as the newly appointed chair for 2024–2026 and extended gratitude to Azerbaijan for its successful previous chairmanship.

The Non-Aligned Movement is one of the largest international organizations, uniting 120 member states, which have declared non-participation in military-political blocs and organizations as the foundation of their foreign policy and promoting cooperation based on the principles and goals of the United Nations Charter.
