The industrial sector of Uzbekistan is steadily developing with active investment attraction and the incorporation of advanced technologies into the country's economy. In the first seven months of 2023, industrial production increased by 5.7% and reached 345 trillion sums. The electrical engineering industry in Uzbekistan demonstrate a growth of 46%, automobile production increased by 16%, the construction materials industry grew by 12%, and ready-made clothing production increased by 11%.
These figures were presented during a video conference chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to discuss measures to boost industrial production in various sectors and regions.
It was emphasized during the meeting that positive changes taking place where work is organized correctly. Overall, Uzbekistan has launched 2,000 new industrial projects since the beginning of the year, with plans to produce an additional 1 trillion sums worth of products by the end of the year.
Particularly noteworthy is the early commissioning of a new metallurgical plant at the "Pistali" gold deposit, which is expected to produce an additional 840 billion sums worth of products this year. The equipment for the plant, valued at approximately $50 million, was manufactured through domestic production cooperation.
However, not all sectors and regions are fully utilizing their potential. In 34 districts and cities, the volume of industrial production has decreased compared to the previous year. Participants in the meeting highlighted that in some industries, including pharmaceuticals, leather and footwear, and textiles, production and export growth rates have slowed down.
Mirziyoyev stressed the need to increase production in 232 industrial enterprises and launch 210 major industrial projects by the end of the year. Directives were given to efficiently utilize the Industrial Development Fund, revitalize unprofitable industrial enterprises, and provide assistance to exporters regarding transportation issues.
