The Uztransgaz company is preparing its infrastructure in Uzbekistan for importing gas from Russia, Gazeta.uz reported with reference to the company's press service.
In January, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan signed a roadmap on cooperation in the gas industry with Russia's Gazprom. The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan then clarified that the working group had agreed on the technical measures necessary for the transit of Russian gas through the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline passing through the territory of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
The Gazli Department of Main Gas Pipelines is carrying out the necessary installation work on internal communications and main gas pipelines, the press service of Uztransgaz reports.
“This is done to ensure that the volume of natural gas imported from Russia is not mixed with the volume of domestic transportation. Thus, a separate transportation will be organized for each direction.
The Gazli Department of Main Gas Pipelines is a partner of the project for the reconstruction of the underground gas storage (UGS) "Gazli".
“Having the presence of the Bukhara-Ural, Central Asia-Center and Gazli-Chimkent gas pipelines, the Gazli gas field is the “heart of the gas transportation system” of Uzbekistan and has the ability to export gas from Uzbekistan to the Urals, to the European part of Russia, to the south of Kazakhstan and to China,” the website of the Uzbek-Russian joint venture Gazli Gas Storage for the expansion, reconstruction and joint operation of the Gazli UGS facility says.
Initially, Gazprom expected to start deliveries of Russian gas to Uzbekistan from March 1, but imports did not start from this date, as the parties continue to study, the Uzbek Energy Ministry said.
