Gas supplies by Gazprom to Uzbekistan this winter exceeded the contractual obligations of the Russian company, Ritneurasia reports.

In October 2023, Gazprom began supplying Russian gas to Uzbekistan for the first time in reverse mode via the route based on the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline system through the territory of Kazakhstan.

"The implementation of the project has made a significant contribution to strengthening Uzbekistan's energy security. In particular, this winter Gazprom provided gas supplies to Uzbekistan in volumes exceeding the contractual obligations. This indicates high demand for Russian gas and the relevance of the route," Gazprom noted.

The question of the prospects for the development of gas exports to Central Asia will be brought up for consideration by the Gazprom Board of Directors.

In June 2023, Uzbekistan signed a two-year gas purchase agreement with Gazprom, with a daily supply volume of 9 million cubic meters and an annual volume of nearly 2.8 billion cubic meters. Deliveries under this agreement began on October 7, 2023. Moreover, Gazprom plans to start supplying significantly larger volumes of gas to the countries of Central Asia via the Central Asia-Center pipeline by November 1, 2025, and conclude medium-term fifteen-year contracts with Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan by mid-2024.

In February 2024, it was reported that the Uzbekistan government intends to modernize its main gas pipeline system to increase gas imports from Russia by 3.5 times, from 9 million to 32 million cubic meters per day.
