More and more Uzbeks are turning to the state for employment assistance, and the country is actively reducing unemployment and poverty levels, according to a report by the Ministry of Employment of Uzbekistan, reports Podrobno.uz.

The Agency of Information and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan hosted a press conference by the Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Employment of Uzbekistan on the topic "Achieved Results and Future Plans in the Field of Poverty Reduction and Employment."

As a result of efforts to ensure employment, the unemployment rate among the working-age population decreased to 6.8% by the beginning of 2024, down from 8.1% the previous year.

The poverty rate decreased by 3% over the year, reaching 11% at the start of 2024.

In the past six months, 113,000 unemployed individuals have received training in professional and entrepreneurial skills at training centers. This is one and a half times more than in the same period in 2023.

Training has begun in 12 new professional areas, with a total of 30 professions available for study at specialized institutions. There is increased interest in learning foreign languages.

By the end of the year, another 115,000 unemployed people will complete training in professions, business skills, and languages.

Significant work has been done to organize the employment of personnel from Uzbekistan abroad. The labor geography has expanded to include several developed countries: South Korea, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, Romania, Bulgaria, and Hungary.

This year, more than 60,000 people were sent to work abroad, three times more than last year. In the second half of the year, 90,000 people are planned to be employed, the Statement of Ministry of Employment of Uzbekistan says.
