With the onset of a sharp cold this winter in Uzbekistan, electricity and gas supplies are experiencing an overload, which leads to power outages and a lack of fuel for transport. Throughout the republic, gas pressure in pipelines has dropped, and power outages occur regularly.
On December 7, the country's government approved a number of measures to stabilize the situation, the Rhythm of Eurasia portal reports. These include:
- by March 1, 2023, vehicles that run on compressed gas and belong to government agencies will switch to gasoline;
- all producers and traders will be prohibited from exporting liquefied gas,
- acceleration of negotiations with foreign countries on the purchase of additional natural gas, electricity, coal and fuel oil,
- in cases where it is not possible to supply natural gas, liquefied gas will be delivered to the population,
- extension of temporary restrictions on the supply of electricity to pumping stations in the system of the Ministry of Water Resources until the end of the year,
- increase in imports of gasoline, as well as raw materials for the production of gasoline and diesel fuel,
- preventing the participation of intermediary companies in the sale of AI-80 gasoline on the stock exchange and some others.
A report on the situation in the energy sector is presented to the head of state Shavkat Mirziyoyev every hour, Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Sherzod Khodjaev said.
"The president approaches this issue responsibly, he gives instructions on establishing the activities of special headquarters, creating working groups in each region, ministry and department, equitable distribution of available resources between the population and social facilities," Khodjaev said.
He also added that the President of Uzbekistan set special tasks to increase the production and import of natural gas.
