On November 28, after Friday prayers, a collective Salat al-Istisqa (prayer for rain) will be performed in all mosques across Uzbekistan, the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan announced, reports Gazeta.uz.
The statement noted that this measure is due to the current autumn being dry, with no rainfall expected in the coming days. Rain is traditionally seen as a symbol of prosperity and abundance.
Additionally, in central mosques of regions, districts, and cities, as well as at pilgrimage sites, livestock will be sacrificed, with the meat distributed to needy families, orphans, and the lonely.
In higher and secondary Islamic educational institutions, teachers and students will read the collection of Hadiths Sahih al-Bukhari before Friday prayers. “Historical records show that when Imam Bukhari’s Sahih was read during a drought, by Allah’s will, rain fell,” the statement said.
The Board also recommended that pilgrims performing Umrah observe Salat al-Istisqa.
