Uzbekistan and the Russian company Gazprom signed a contract for the supply of Russian gas, which will begin in the fourth quarter, EADaily.com reports.

Within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khodjaev, and the Minister of Energy of the Republic, Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov.

“The parties signed a Contract for the supply of Russian gas to the Republic of Uzbekistan and a Roadmap for the preparation of the gas transmission system of Uzbekistan for the acceptance and transportation of Russian pipeline gas,” Gazprom reports.

The planned date for the start of the export of Russian natural gas to Uzbekistan through the territory of Kazakhstan is the fourth quarter of 2023, the company specified. Gazprom also signed a contract with the Kazakh state company QazaqGaz to transport gas to Uzbekistan through Kazakhstan.

At the end of December 2022, Uzbekistan stopped gas exports to China and was only able to resume it in April due to a lack of fuel in the country. The volume of Russian gas supplies is still unknown. It is known that Uzbekistan imports 1.5 billion cubic meters from Turkmenistan in winter, but during this heating season, supplies failed. In 2022, gas production in the country decreased by 4% to 51.7 billion cubic meters.
