The incumbent President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev won 87.05 percent of the vote and won the early presidential elections, CEC head Zainiddin Nizamkhojayev said, RIA Novosti reported.
"87.05% of the total number of voters cast their votes for the candidate from the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev," the head of the CEC of Uzbekistan's election commission said at a press conference.
In second place with 4.43% of the vote is the candidate from the Social Democratic Party "Adolat" ("Justice"), First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court Robakhon Makhmudova, in third place is the chairman of the People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (NDPU) Ulugbek Inoyatov with 4.02% . The fourth was the leader of the Ecological Party Abdushukur Khamzaev, who received 3.74% of the vote.
According to the CEC, the final turnout was 79.8 percent, or 15.6 million voters. Mirziyoyev won the 2021 presidential election with 80.31 percent of the vote and a turnout of 80.04 percent.
Early presidential elections were held on Sunday in Uzbekistan. This is the first presidential election since the constitution was amended to extend the presidential term from five to seven years. Under constitutional law, the current head of state, 65-year-old Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who is in office for the second term, can run again for this post.
Early presidential elections in Uzbekistan were held on 9 July. The elections were held as a result of the adoption of a new version of the Constitution of the country, which was submitted to a general referendum this spring.
