On Independence Day, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev presided over a ceremony in Tashkent honoring outstanding citizens for their contributions to national development, according to the website of the President of Uzbekistan..
Speaking at the event, the President announced that, according to IMF forecasts, Uzbekistan’s GDP will exceed $130 billion in 2025 — a historic milestone. In 2017, the figure stood at $50 billion, rising to $115 billion in 2024.
“Reforms in the New Uzbekistan have become irreversible. Economic growth, investment attraction, and entrepreneurship have transformed our country,” Mirziyoyev emphasized.
Over the past eight years, housing for 500,000 apartments has been built — four times more than in the first 25 years of independence. A total of 60 trillion sums have been allocated for infrastructure development. The country has attracted $130 billion in foreign investment, implemented over 100,000 projects, and created 7 million new jobs.
Education has been a key priority: the number of university students has surged from 279,000 to 1.5 million, and 466 new schools have been constructed. Enrollment in kindergartens has tripled since 2017, reaching 2.5 million children.
The President highlighted industrial growth, with output rising from $29 billion to $70 billion. Service exports, including tourism and IT, have surpassed $3 billion. The construction sector has tripled in size, reaching $21 billion in annual output.
“The main goal of independence is human dignity and improving the lives of our people. These achievements are the result of millions of hardworking citizens,” Mirziyoyev said.
Entrepreneurs, farmers, teachers, and doctors were honored both at the ceremony and in regional events. Recipients expressed gratitude for the recognition and extended best wishes for the nation’s continued prosperity.
