In the near future, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen will open a permanent embassy of his country in Ashgabat, the Hronikatm.com portal reported with reference to the i24News TV channel.

The opening of the embassy is intended to send a signal to Iran that Israel has growing influence in the region, the news said.

The embassy in Ashgabat will be the closest Israeli diplomatic mission to the Iranian border and will be located just 20 kilometers from it.

About ten years ago, in the light of positive relations between the two states, Israel opened a temporary embassy in Ashgabat with a temporary structure, which will now become a permanent diplomatic mission.

It is also reported that over the years, Israeli and Turkmen high-ranking officials visited each other's countries, signing agreements on cooperation in politics, economics and energy. Recently, progress has been made in cooperation in the field of health and cyber defense.

Meanwhile, on February 28, a meeting was held in Ashgabat between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Berdyniya Myatiev, and the head of the Eurasia and Western Balkans Department of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Yuval Fukhsakh.

The parties discussed issues of strengthening Turkmen-Israeli relations, including the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic and humanitarian spheres, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said without details.
