The area of land using water-saving technologies in Kazakhstan has increased by 86% — from 312.2 thousand hectares to about 581 thousand hectares over the past two years. This result was achieved thanks to a number of measures, the Government of Kazakhstan reports.

Extensive work is being carried out to provide state support to farmers in the form of subsidies for the introduction of water-saving technologies and irrigation water. The share of cost reimbursement for farmers for infrastructure development, purchase, and installation of water-saving systems has been increased from 50% to 80%. A differentiated subsidy rate for irrigation water has also been introduced depending on the tariff.

These support measures have also contributed to the growth of the domestic market for water-saving technology production. In 2024, four local factories producing sprinkler and drip irrigation equipment were opened in Turkistan Region, as well as in the cities of Almaty and Astana. This year, a Kazakh-Chinese project for the production of drip irrigation systems was launched in the Zhambyl Region.

“Our goal is to modernize water management infrastructure to protect the interests of citizens and ensure the country’s security. Water is a strategic resource, and we are working to ensure its most efficient use and conservation for the future of our republic,” said Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan.
