The International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank (WB) will allocate $50 million in grant funds to improve the quality of education in Tajikistan. This is stated in the information of the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan, TASS reports.
The agreement on financing the project "Educational environment - the basis of quality education" was signed by the Minister of Finance of Tajikistan Fayziddin Kakhhorzoda and the WB Permanent Representative in the Republic Ozan Sevimli, the Ministry of Finance reports.
"The main goal of the project is to improve the quality of teaching conditions and the learning environment in selected general education schools," the ministry said in a statement. It is specified that the total cost of the project, designed for 2023-2029, is $50 million in the form of grants.
An agreement was also signed on financing a project for the modernization of social protection and economic integration. Its goal is to protect the most vulnerable segments of the population and improve the structure of social protection. According to the ministry, the total cost of the project is $37.5 million and is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
The International Development Association, founded in 1960, is a lending institution and is part of the World Bank Group. Provides loans on more favorable terms. Tajikistan joined the bank in 1993. According to the WB, since 1996, the bank has invested more than $2.7 billion in the republic. Currently, 24 projects worth more than $1.5 billion are being implemented in Tajikistan, aimed at developing the socio-economic sphere and the welfare of the population.
