The turnover of wholesale and retail trade and car repair in Tajikistan has increased by more than 10%, Avesta news agency reports.

According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, during the first 8 months of 2023, the turnover of wholesale and retail trade and car repair in Tajikistan amounted to 34,383.6 million somoni or $3.12 billion, which is 11.6% higher than the same period last year at comparable prices.

The total turnover of retail trade and car repair reached 29,061.8 million somoni or $2.64 billion, with food, raw materials, and mixed goods markets accounting for 35.5% of the total retail turnover, amounting to 12,214.8 million somoni. During this period, the following items were sold: livestock for 2,643.1 million somoni, automobiles, mopeds, and their spare parts for 653.2 million somoni, petroleum products for 5,127.3 million somoni, and other goods for 8,038.0 million somoni. The turnover of car maintenance enterprises amounted to 385.4 million somoni.

The ratio of food products in the total volume of retail turnover was 49.9%, or 14,501.9 million somoni, while non-food products accounted for 50.1%, or 14,559.9 million somoni, which means that food products were sold for 58 million somoni less.

According to the Agency, the majority of material goods are purchased by the population through trade to meet their personal needs. This is because the concept of trade is expressed in the sale of goods in exchange for the monetary income of the population. In other words, trade turnover in the monetary circulation of Tajikistan also plays a special role in stabilizing the national currency, the somoni, as monetary turnover is directly related to trade services, especially retail trade.

At the current official exchange rate of the National Bank of Tajikistan, $1 equals 10.96 Tajik somoni.
