TURKSOY’s film about Molla Nasreddin to be filmed in Turkmenistan

The full-length feature film “Molla Nasreddin – Friend of Hard Days” will be filmed in Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenportal reports.

The director will be the famous Azerbaijani cinematographer Vagif Mustafayev, who noted that the film about Molla Nasreddin will be dedicated to common Turkic values, traditions and heroes. The film will be a joint project of six Turkic states. The film will star famous actors from each country. Filming will begin in August and will be completed by the end of 2024.

The film is financed by TURKSOY and will be presented at the Cannes Film Festival and other international festivals, the portal notes.

In Turkmenistan, the character of the funny stories of the East is known as Molla Ependi. The tradition of retelling the parables of Molla Ependi has been included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. A certificate confirming this was presented to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov in May last year by the director of the UNESCO cluster office in Tehran, Golda El-Khoury.
