The Afghan Energy Company announced that Uzbekistan had temporarily suspended the supply of electricity to Afghanistan due to a malfunction, the official representative of the Afghan energy company DABS, Hikmatulla Maivandi said in a video message, reports UzNews.uz.

Uzbekistan failed to fulfill its contractual obligations to Kabul, the Afghan representative said.

The Afghan authorities are trying to fill the energy gap by building up domestic capacities, including restarting Afghan thermal power plants, Maiwandi stressed in his speech.

The Afghan authorities are busy supplying residential areas with priority by reducing the energy consumption of state institutions.

In August 2022, Afghanistan paid off last year's debt to Uzbekistan for electricity.
