Afghanistan meets 80% of its diesel fuel needs with domestic production, according to the Afghan Oil Refinery Union, reports Ariana News.

The private sector has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in crude oil processing, and this sector is developing daily. The union claims that the diesel produced in Afghan factories meets international standards.

“We cover 80% of the market's demand. Currently, 80% of diesel fuel is produced domestically, while 20% is imported,” said Zabiullah Nazari, Deputy Chairman of the Afghan Oil Refinery Union.

Meanwhile, representatives of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Oil and Mining stated that they are working to increase the production capacity of the Amu Darya oil basin to fully meet the country’s oil needs through domestic production. Along with the Amu Darya basin, they are also seeking investments in an oil field in Herat to begin its development.
