Afghanistan's exports fell in January, but imports rose

Afghanistan's exports in January 2025 decreased by $28 million, while imports increased, the National Statistics and Information Agency of Afghanistan informed.

Compared to the previous month, exports declined by $28 million, while imports rose by $55.7 million, the report states.

The total value of the country's exports this month amounted to $162.2 million, while total imports reached $1.1 billion, according to the National Statistics and Information Agency of Afghanistan.

In December 2024, total exports stood at $190.2 million. Based on these figures, January’s exports decreased by $28 million compared to the previous month.

Additionally, in December last year, Afghanistan's imports were valued at $1.042 billion, increasing by $55.7 million by mid-January of this year.

According to the National Statistics and Information Agency:

  • The largest Afghan exports in January went to India, amounting to $75 million, followed by Pakistan at $50.4 million, and the United Arab Emirates at $5.9 million.
  • The highest volume of imports came from Iran ($276 million), Pakistan ($188 million), and China ($139.4 million).
