Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to support construction of Rogun HPP

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) will allocate preferential funds in the amount of $500 million for the construction of the Rogun hydroelectric power station in Tajikistan, Trend news agency reports citing the press service of the President of Tajikistan.

The provision of concessional financing for the Rogun HPP project was announced by AIIB President Jin Liqun at a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Beijing on May 17, the report said.

With an estimated capacity of 3,780 MW, the Rogun HPP is expected to be the largest hydroelectric power plant in Tajikistan. The HPP is scheduled to reach its full production capacity in 2028, and the HPP will generate 13,300 GWh of electricity per year.

Following the meeting, the parties also discussed further funding for the development of green infrastructure in the transport, energy, housing and communal sectors. The parties also touched upon the issues of financing projects in the field of agriculture and minerals.
