The next meeting of the heads of the Sughd region of Tajikistan and the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan took place on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, the SugdNEWS portal reports.
The heads of the border regions of the two states held talks at the Kyzylbel border post the day before, the administration of the Sughd region reported. The negotiations were attended by the chairman of the Sughd region Rajabboy Ahmadzoda and the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Kyrgyzstan in the Batken region Abdikarim Alimbaev.
During the talks, issues of maintaining stability on the border, water distribution and ensuring public security were discussed.
“An agreement was reached not to use aircraft on the border. The parties also resolved the issue of distribution and supply of water to the settlements of the two countries. It was emphasized that henceforth the inhabitants of the border areas should resolve the issues of providing water among themselves at a peaceful and friendly level,” the message says.
The meeting was attended by the chairmen of the border regions of the two countries - the city of Isfara and the Gafurov region, representatives of law enforcement agencies and relevant structures.
