The 4th meeting of the regional working group on the development of the Regional Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change in Central Asia as part of the Green Central Asia initiative was held in the capital of Kazakhstan The project is being implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation, Orient.tm reports.
The meeting was attended by members of the working group appointed from each Central Asian country (representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Central Asia, relevant sectoral ministries and government departments and committees), as well as representatives of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and the Interstate Commission for Sustainable Development.
Speakers noted the importance of the developed strategy aimed at combating the negative effects of climate change in the Central Asian region. Consul General of Germany Mario-Ingo Zoos informed that the German Foreign Ministry decided to extend the Green Central Asia initiative for the period after 2024 with an emphasis on the implementation of this Regional Climate Change Adaptation Strategy in Central Asia.
It is planned that the countries will complete and agree on the Regional Strategy by October 2023, and after that it will be possible to present it at the upcoming UN Conference on Climate Change, as one of the indicators of the joint regional efforts of the Central Asian countries aimed at adapting to climate change in the region.
