The volume of cargo transported between Kazakhstan and China in 2024 amounted to 32 million tons, exceeding the figures of previous years, reports the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan.
"By the end of 2024, the volume of cargo transportation by rail between Kazakhstan and China exceeded 32 million tons, which is a historic record," the statement said.
According to the press service, Kazakhstan's exports increased by 1 million tons, reaching 13.7 million tons. The main goods exported by Kazakhstan were iron and non-ferrous ores, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as grain.
Imports to Kazakhstan increased by 5%, while transit transportation through Kazakhstan grew by 19%, amounting to 15.3 million tons. A 43% increase in container transit to Europe was also noted.
The main reason for the growth in transportation, according to the ministry, was the opening of Kazakhstan's terminal at the Xi’an International Dry Port. Cargo traffic through this terminal and the Aktau port in 2024 amounted to more than 300 container trains, which is 30 times higher than in 2023.
