A trilateral document was signed in Xi'an, which provides for the next steps on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project, the Ministry of Transport of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The document was signed within the framework of the China-Central Asia summit between the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan and the State Committee for Development and Reforms of China.

The signed memorandum will speed up the implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project, the report said.

Under the project, the parties completed the work on the development of a feasibility study and conducted its tripartite joint assessment, which will be further reviewed.

The new document will outline the next steps for the project implementation, such as detailed design development, research and definition of the investment and financing model.

The implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project was activated in 2022 after negotiations between the project participants at the SCO summit in Samarkand. The total length of the highway will be about 454 km, of which 280 km will pass through the territory of Kyrgyzstan. The line has 18 stations, more than 80 bridges, more than 40 tunnels.

According to preliminary forecasts, the road will shorten the route from East Asia to the countries of the Middle East and Southern Europe by almost 900 km and seven to eight days. The potential volume of cargo transportation is estimated at 12-15 million tons per year.

On May 18-19, the China-Central Asia summit was held in the Chinese city of Xi'an with the participation of the leaders of all Central Asian countries of China.
