The first Belt and Road (B&R) climate and environmental monitoring superstation outside of China has started operation in Tajikistan, according to Lanzhou University, Xinhua news agency reported.
The new station, which is located in Shaartuz, provides comprehensive tracking data for dust, pollutants and meteorological elements in critical regions of Central Asia. These data are needed to warn of meteorological disasters and combat climate change.
The observation station is part of the "Belt and Road" global observation network initiated by China. The network starts in Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu province, and includes more than 20 planned stations in various countries and regions associated with this project. At the moment, there are already 7 stations in China and one station in Pakistan, in the city of Peshawar.
The Shahritus station can track long-range transmission of sand and dust, as well as the local diffusion law of complex air pollutants. This data will help improve socio-economic development and the study of global climate change.
The data collected at the station will play an important role in combating climate change and warning of meteorological disasters in key regions of Central Asia. The new station is the first outside of China, highlighting the importance of this project and its potential for international cooperation in climate and environmental monitoring. It also symbolizes a new transitional period in the world ecology, thanks to an innovative approach to the creation of climate and environmental observation stations.
