In 2024, Kyrgyzstan recorded a historic increase in the number of enterprises with Chinese capital, reaching 931 companies — the highest figure in the past six years, according to data from the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, reported by Akchabar.kg.

Compared to 2023, the number of such companies rose by 42.4%, and by 61% relative to 2022, when there were only 577 enterprises with Chinese participation. After four consecutive years of decline, 2024 marked a turning point, with the number of Chinese-backed companies growing by nearly one-third and exceeding the pre-pandemic level of 2019.

Of the total, 706 out of 931 enterprises are wholly owned by Chinese investors, indicating a steady expansion of China’s economic presence and investment activity in Kyrgyzstan.

Overall, 5,724 enterprises with foreign investment were registered in the country in 2024, with 16.3% of them involving Chinese capital — making China one of the leading foreign investors in Kyrgyzstan’s economy.

The statistical data reveal a clear trend:

  • 2019 — 890 enterprises

  • 2020 — 750

  • 2021 — 640

  • 2022 — 577

  • 2023 — 654

  • 2024 — 931

The chart illustrates a steady decline from 2019 to 2022, likely due to the pandemic and related economic challenges, followed by a sharp rebound in 2024, when the number of Chinese-owned enterprises surpassed pre-crisis levels.
