Governor of East Kazakhstan Region, Nurymbet Saktaganov, has reached an agreement with China's Holding Group Co Ltd to launch a joint gas development project in the Zaisan district, according to Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The investment is expected to reach approximately $2 billion, with the project projected to create over 1,000 new jobs.

Before making a final commitment, the Chinese investors conducted a comprehensive analysis of the region’s climate, geography, and infrastructure. During negotiations, both sides agreed on a preliminary cooperation plan and outlined the involvement of relevant government agencies in the project's implementation.

Kazakhstan and China have been actively expanding their energy partnership since the early 2000s. In 2017, the two countries completed a joint project to build the Beineu-Bozoi-Shymkent gas pipeline.

In 2023, they finalized the modernization of the Central Asia–China trunk pipeline. The new initiative in East Kazakhstan marks another significant step in strengthening bilateral energy cooperation.
