Tajikistan's 2024 cotton harvest was significantly lower than expected - about half of the planned volume, Sputnik Tajikistan reports.

The country had aimed to harvest over 434,000 tons of raw cotton, but in the end, only 253,300 tons were collected, which is just 58.2% of the planned amount. The results were disappointing even compared to 2024, when 344,300 tons were harvested, according to data from Tajikistan’s Ministry of Agriculture.

In 2023, Tajikistan exported 268,300 tons of agricultural products, with cotton fiber accounting for about 100,500 tons, or approximately 25% of the total volume. However, cotton exports decreased by 9,200 tons compared to the previous year.

Tajikistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Kurban Hakimzoda, stated that last year, the area allocated for cotton cultivation increased to 175,000 hectares. The minister noted that the decline in cotton harvest was due to changes in climatic conditions, adding that prolonged rains delayed the start of the planting season.
