At the anniversary forum of mayors and vice-mayors of sister cities, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Astana, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called the decision to move the capital fateful, Zakon.kz reports.
The transfer of the capital was not easy, a lot of work was done, the President of Kazakhstan said. The decision was made in a very difficult period, when the country's economy was in stagnation, and people did not fully adapt to market relations, he stressed.
"In such a difficult situation, the Supreme Council, on the initiative of Nursultan Nazarbayev, decided to move the capital. The transfer of the capital was a very right step from a political point of view. This decision was fateful. There is no doubt that this decision is in the interests of the people. Therefore, we all must give a worthy a fair assessment of the work of Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev in this area," Tokayev said
An anniversary forum of mayors and vice-mayors of sister cities dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the capital of Kazakhstan began its work in Astana. President Tokayev took part in the opening ceremony of the forum. About 1,300 people from 13 countries of the world, including the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Israel, Turkey, Poland, India, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, China, Uzbekistan, Japan, Azerbaijan, South Korea and others take part in the event.
