E-commerce is becoming an increasingly important part of Kyrgyzstan’s economic strategy. In 2024 alone, the volume of the country’s domestic e-commerce market reached $359.2 million—an increase of 14.3% compared to the previous year. This was announced by Mars Zhyldyzyev, a representative of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, at the regional World Bank conference Elevate Global Access Through E-Commerce (E-GATE) in Central Asia.
The event, held in Bishkek, marked the final stage of a regional series previously hosted in Dushanbe and Tashkent. The conference brought together participants from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, including representatives of government agencies, international organizations, business associations, digital platforms, and the entrepreneurial community.
"According to forecasts, by 2028 the volume of Kyrgyzstan’s domestic e-commerce market may exceed $600 million. This highlights the strong potential for digital economic development in the country," Zhyldyzyev emphasized.
The E-GATE program aims to expand access for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to global markets by promoting e-commerce, improving export logistics, developing digital infrastructure, and enhancing the regulatory environment.
Kyrgyzstan is actively engaged in the program: 26 of the country’s SMEs have already gained access to the international trade platform Alibaba.com. Moreover, under the E-GATE initiative, Kyrgyz companies have signed or are negotiating export deals worth more than $1 million.
The World Bank initiative helps regional countries integrate into the global digital economy and strengthen the competitiveness of national businesses in international markets.
