The Eurasian Economic Union will begin to use its own technologies to solve the problem of water shortages in Central Asia, said Deputy Chairman of the Board of the EDB Yaroslav Mandron, Sputnik reports.

The EAEU intends to create a cluster within the association for the production of equipment necessary for the irrigation system, the organization's statement said.

The EAEU is ready to invest up to $400 million in such cooperation, said EDB representative Mandron.

“In this way, the money allocated by the states of the region will go to their enterprises,” he explained.

At the moment, to solve the problem of water shortages, Central Asian countries are allocating money to Western companies, not their own. The reason for this decision: virtually all water saving equipment is imported.

Earlier, Deputy Head of the Government of Tajikistan Matlubahon Sattoriyon said that declining water supplies, more frequent droughts and melting glaciers threaten the sustainable development of Tajikistan.

In her opinion, climate change is a common threat to all Asian countries. In addition, Matlubahon Sattoriyon is confident that it is possible to prevent and reduce the consequences of natural disasters only by combining technological and financial efforts.

A conference dedicated to disaster risk reduction was held in Dushanbe. It was organized at the initiative of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense of Tajikistan.

Representatives from 30 countries in the Asian region took part in the conference.
