The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide Uzbekistan with a sovereign loan of $66.4 million for the construction of a new high-voltage power transmission line connecting the country's northwestern and southwestern regions, Uznews.uz reports.
The funds will be allocated for the construction of a 230-kilometer 500 kV transmission line between Sarimay in the Khorezm region and Muruntau in the Navoi region.
The project aims to eliminate constraints in the power system and reduce electricity supply disruptions, especially during peak demand periods. It will also support the integration of renewable energy sources in line with Uzbekistan's low-carbon energy strategy, developed with the bank's support.
Additionally, the project is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 4,143 tons per year and decrease annual electricity losses by 34,636 MWh.
