Emamoli Rahmon is the President of Tajikistan. He was born on October 5, 1952, in the village of Dangara, Kulyab region. He is the third president of the Republic of Tajikistan since November 16, 1994.
From November 27, 1992 to November 16, 1994, he was the chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan, that is, he was actually the head of state, since the post of president of the Republic of Tajikistan was abolished during this period. Since March 18, 1998, he has also been the leader of the center-left People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan, which dominates the parliament of Tajikistan. He was elected Vice President of the UN General Assembly on September 30, 1999 for a period of one year.
Since December 25, 2015, Emamoli Rahmon has been holding the life title "Peshvoi Millat", which means "Leader of the Nation", in full - "Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation". He won the presidential elections five times (in the elections of 1994, 1999, 2006, 2013 and 2020), in addition, he extended and reformed his powers based on the results of the popular constitutional referendums in 1999 and 2003. According to the results of the last nationwide constitutional referendum on May 22, 2016, amendments were adopted that removed restrictions on the number of re-elections for the post of President of Tajikistan and reduced the age limit for running for the presidency from 35 to 30 years.
