Issues related to the guaranteed supply of energy resources to the population and sectors of Uzbekistan's economy during the upcoming autumn-winter period were discussed at a government meeting in Tashkent
The harsh winter and unusually hot summer weather during the last winter have caused a series of problems in the energy sector of Uzbekistan. Therefore, preparations for the upcoming winter and ensuring the stability of the energy system are necessary already at this stage. This was emphasized at the meeting, which was attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Uzbekistan is actively developing "green" energy and implementing energy-saving technologies in the economy. A renewable energy source with a capacity of 430 MW has been put into operation. This generates 1.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, which is equivalent to 60% of the annual consumption of social facilities in Uzbekistan.
At the same time, the importance of conserving energy resources is increasing. The meeting highlighted the need to save 3.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and 2.4 billion cubic meters of gas by the end of the year.
The goal for the second half of the year is to extract 30 billion cubic meters of gas, increase underground gas storage reserves to at least 3.5 billion cubic meters, and produce 41 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity.
The government has instructed for a complete repair of the electrical networks and transformers, as well as strengthening discipline in the consumption of energy resources.
Population growth and rapid economic development have become the main reasons for the shortage of electrical energy in Uzbekistan. This has led to Uzbekistan reducing gas exports and increasing the import of electricity in the current year.
