EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell announced the opportunity to use the investment power of the European private sector to help Central Asian countries build a new “green” digital economy that will be closely connected with the rest of the world, Orient reports.

This is stated in the text distributed by the EU Delegation to Turkmenistan, dedicated to the forthcoming Conference on the interconnectivity of the EU and Central Asia Global Gateway in Samarkand on November 18, which will discuss the digital, transport and energy connectivity of the two regions, the portal writes.

The EU intends to create the necessary platforms to overcome geographical obstacles and improve public services, stimulate and diversify the national economies of the five Central Asian countries.

As the world's largest global investor, the EU will provide €390 million in grants to various joint projects from 2021 to 2024, up from €1.1 billion from 2014 to 2020.

The upcoming meeting in Samarkand, which is expected to be attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, aims to stimulate investment to unlock the huge potential of Central Asia and will be an important stage in interregional cooperation in the field of ecology, economy, transport, energy and investment.
