Ex-Kumtor manager extended house arrest in Kyrgyzstan

Former external manager of Kumtor Gold Company CJSC in Kyrgyzstan, Tengiz Bolturuk, has been extended his term of house arrest, 24.kg reports.

The decision to extend the detention under house arrest was made by the Oktyabrsky District Court of Bishkek.

“The preventive measure for Tengiz Bolturuk was considered on July 4. By a court decision, the term for applying a preventive measure in the form of house arrest was extended to the accused until August 10,” the district court said.

Tengiz Bolturuk and Ryspek Toktogulov were previously removed from the leadership of the largest gold mining company in Kyrgyzstan. The Prosecutor General's Office of Kyrgyzstan began a detailed audit of the work of the company under their leadership.

As a result of the investigation, three criminal cases were opened with preliminary damage to the state in the amount of 1 billion soms. As a result, the former external manager of Kumtor was detained and placed in the pre-trial detention center of the State Committee for National Security until November 10, 2022.

Bolturuk himself does not admit his guilt. He denies all accusations and considers them false. His lawyer says that the accused is ready to cooperate with the investigation. Bolturuk and other defendants in the criminal case on corruption at Kumtor have already paid 844 million 512 thousand 858 soms. It's almost $10 million.

Kumtor produces 12-15 tons of gold annually.
