On March 5, an International Symposium on Water Issues and Natural Disasters for Cooperation and Partnership was held in Tokyo. The symposium was attended by high-ranking representatives of government agencies, international organizations, private companies, and civil society, Orient.tm reports.
The Turkmen delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Turkmen State Water Management Scientific-Production and Design Institute.
Emperor Naruhito of Japan participated in the symposium's opening ceremony.
As part of the event, a meeting of water sector experts was held within the "Central Asia – Japan" dialogue framework.
In their speeches, Turkmen representatives highlighted the initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan regarding the protection and rational use of water resources, which have been presented at major international forums. The press release from the Turkmen Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of effective water resource management in achieving sustainable development in Central Asia.
The global climate change crisis has significantly increased pressure on Central Asia’s water resources, making careful and rational water use a top priority. In this context, transboundary water cooperation is seen as a key tool for ensuring regional stability and creating favorable conditions for sustainable economic development.
