The foreign ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Jeenbek Kulubaev and Sirojiddin Mukhriddin, held talks in Dushanbe, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan informed.
Kulubaev's visit to Tajikistan is at the invitation of the Tajik side.
During the negotiations, Kulubaev emphasized Kyrgyzstan's commitment to further strengthening friendly relations with Tajikistan. He highlighted that the completion of the description of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border in its entirety would enable both sides to enhance cooperation in various mutually beneficial spheres.
"The Kyrgyz side is committed to a prompt and mutually beneficial resolution of the border demarcation issue, taking into account the interests of each party," the statement said.
Kulubaev and Mukhriddin discussed the state and prospects of Kyrgyz-Tajik relations in political, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres, as well as cooperation within the UN, OSCE, SCO, and other international organizations. Opinions were exchanged on the global and regional situation.
Following the negotiations, a cooperation program between the foreign ministries of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan for 2024–2026 was signed.
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Kyrgyz Foreign Minister and discussed the prospects of bilateral relations.
As a result of intensive negotiations on resolving border issues, the parties approached the final stage of agreeing on all disputed sections of the border, stretching over 970 km. According to experts and statements from both sides, the border demarcation is expected to be completed, and the final agreement signed in the spring of this year.
