An international conference titled “International Year of Peace and Trust: The Role of Interregional Economic Cooperation in Ensuring Sustainable Development” was held in the capital of Turkmenistan, marking the 30th anniversary of the country’s permanent neutrality. The event, hosted at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Ashgabat, was attended by the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, TDH reports.
The forum gathered top officials of Turkmenistan, including the Chairman of the Mejlis and Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers. Among the international participants were representatives of government agencies and major companies from the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and the Sultanate of Oman, as well as delegates from international organizations, financial institutions, and diplomatic missions.
During the conference, a congratulatory message from President Serdar Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan was read. In his address, the head of state emphasized the significance of the event in ensuring economic stability in Central and South Asia, effectively implementing energy, transport, and logistics projects, and expanding investment opportunities.
President Berdimuhamedow expressed confidence that the conference would serve as an important platform for exchanging experiences in fostering sustainable economic development across the region, introducing modern innovations, and discussing investment opportunities.
Key topics of discussion included interregional economic cooperation, which plays a strategic role in achieving sustainable development. Forum participants explored prospects for joint projects in trade, energy, transport, and environmental sectors.
Special attention was given to the development of a modern system of sustainable transport and communication corridors, as well as energy security - priorities for Turkmenistan in the context of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
