In the Khorezm region, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the ceremony marking the start of the construction of a 100 MW photovoltaic station by the French company Voltalia, Gazeta.uz reports.
During his speech at the ceremony, Mirziyoyev emphasized the goal of increasing the share of "green energy" in Uzbekistan's electricity generation to 15% by this year and reaching 40% by 2030 through renewable sources.
In 2024, the "Solar House" program was launched to stimulate public interest in alternative energy. It offers preferential resources and tax incentives to encourage the use of solar energy among the population. Over 2,000 households and 855 entrepreneurs in Khorezm installed solar panels with a capacity of 15 MW as part of this program, generating an excess of 320,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity, which was purchased by the government.
The Voltalia solar power station is the first major project of its kind in Khorezm. It is expected to generate 254 million kilowatt-hours of "green energy" annually, covering 11% of the region's annual electricity consumption. The station is planned to be connected to the grid by the end of the year.
This will allow transferring 40% of excess energy to neighboring areas, ensuring stable electricity supply to 85,000 households. The station will save 76 million cubic meters of natural gas and prevent the emission of 106,000 tons of harmful substances.
The project will also pioneer the use of agrivoltaics, combining energy production and agriculture on the same site, allowing crops to be grown under solar panels.
Expressing gratitude to the investor and engineers, the head of state emphasized that such innovative projects strengthen the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and France.
"Congratulations to all of you on these new capacities that will breathe new life into the economy not only of the Khorezm region but the entire country," said President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev also held a meeting with Voltalia's CEO, Sébastien Clerc. The meeting discussed the prospects for expanding the partnership, and the head of state supported plans to expand cooperation projects with the company, including the organization of battery production in the Khorezm region and the construction of a hybrid power station in the Bukhara region.
