The use of gas to generate electricity may hinder the process of gasification of Kazakhstan, experts in the country's energy sector say.
Gas consumption in Kazakhstan may reach 20 billion cubic meters, Kazakh Energy Minister Bolat Akchulakov said, Total.kz reported.
“Now there is a very large consumption of gas. We are faced with the task of bringing the production of commercial and marketable gas to 30 billion cubic meters by 2030. Consumption, taking into account this year's forecasts, is already more than 20 billion,” Akchulakov said after a meeting of the government of Kazakhstan.
He noted that the maximum use of gas for electricity generation could hinder the gasification process in Kazakhstan.
“If gas is used to the maximum to produce electricity, then, perhaps, it may not be enough in such a volume to gasify the population. Therefore, first of all, we proceed from the point of view of covering the needs of the population,” Akchulakov concluded.
“In parallel with active work on gasification of the population, it is necessary to introduce a culture of rational, careful consumption of gas as an energy resource. The analysis carried out shows that in the warm regions of the country, gas consumption is on par with regions where the average temperature is much lower,” Akchulakov said.
