The Global Gateway Investors Forum on Transport Connectivity between the EU and Central Asia opened in Brussels, bringing together representatives from governments, financial institutions, businesses, and civil society from Europe, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Turkey, known as the "Big Seven," Orient.tm reports.
Executive Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis announced that European and international financial institutions present at the forum will allocate €10 billion to support and invest in sustainable transport connectivity in Central Asia.
The Turkmenistan delegation to the Investors Forum includes Batyr Annaev, Deputy Director-General of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers; Bekmyrat Ishangulyev, Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Railways Agency; Seyitguly Bayseyidov, Deputy Chairman of the Water Transport Agency; Merdan Bashimov, CEO of the Joint-Stock Company "Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan"; and Sapar Palvanov, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium.
Forum participants will discuss the necessary investments to transform the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor into a modern, multimodal, and efficient route connecting Europe and Central Asia in 15 days.
The Investors Forum is based on the findings of the "Sustainable Transport Links between Europe and Central Asia" study conducted in June 2023 under the guidance of the European Commission and carried out by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). These findings were presented at the 2nd EU-Central Asia Economic Forum in May 2023 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
As part of the Forum, the Turkmen delegation also has planned a series of bilateral meetings.
