China and Russia became the main investors in Tajikistan's economy in 2024, Asia-Plus reports.
"In 2024, the total volume of foreign capital amounted to $4.9 billion, which is $2.1 billion (or 72%) more than in 2023," the report states.
It is noted that the majority of investments ($4.128 billion) were directed to Dushanbe, accounting for 84.2% of all foreign investments. The Sughd region ranks second, receiving $761.2 million (15.5%).
The volume of foreign investments in the Khatlon region amounted to $11.8 million, in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region—$1.3 million, and in other districts of the republic—$3.2 million.
"China remains the main investor in Tajikistan; however, the share of Chinese investments in the country decreased in 2024 compared to previous years," the report states.
From 2007 to 2024, the share of Chinese investments declined from 45% to 38%. However, in absolute terms, Chinese investments have continued to grow. In 2024, Chinese investments increased by 38% compared to 2023, reaching $150.9 million.
