The national economy of Tajikistan is projected to grow by 8.2% in 2025 and 8.5% in 2026, according to discussions held on October 29 between Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavkizoda Zavki Amina and IMF Mission Chief for Tajikistan Matthew Gertner, Avesta.tj reports.

The meeting focused on the implementation of the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) program.

Minister Zavkizoda emphasized that high-level meetings between President Emomali Rahmon and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva have elevated bilateral relations to a new stage of cooperation.

Despite global economic turbulence, geopolitical tensions, and trade disruptions, Tajikistan’s GDP grew by 8.2% in January–September 2025, reaching 117.8 billion somoni. The Minister noted that this progress was achieved thanks to the timely implementation of presidential directives, government decisions, and national development programs.

Zavkizoda urged the IMF to consider expanding concessional lending to support priority projects defined by the President, aimed at strengthening macroeconomic stability and promoting sustainable development.

In response, Matthew Gertner praised Tajikistan’s resilient macroeconomic performance and steady growth over recent years, reaffirming the IMF’s readiness for continued cooperation.

The Minister also thanked the IMF for revising its 2025 growth forecast upward to 7.5%, highlighting that, as President Rahmon has stated, “Modern Tajikistan is a country with a rapidly developing economy, strengthening international ties, and a favorable investment climate.”

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and the International Monetary Fund.
