In 2023, enterprises in Kyrgyzstan’s energy sector produced 13.8 billion kWh of electricity, which is 0.3% less than the previous year. This is stated in a report by Kyrgyzstan’s National Statistics Committee, reports Economist.kg.
The main share of electricity generation in the country was provided by hydroelectric power plants—around 87%.
Electricity consumption in Kyrgyzstan in 2023 amounted to 17.2 billion kWh, an increase of 6.5% year-on-year.
The structure of electricity consumption in 2023 underwent some changes. The largest amount of electricity (around 50%) was consumed by industrial subscribers (including residential and utility needs). Agriculture consumed 21.3% of the electricity (including distribution to households). The share of other sectors in the total consumption was 13.8%.
There was an increase in electricity consumption in several sectors of the economy in 2023 compared to the previous year:
- Education – by 14.4%;
- Agriculture – by 10.4%;
- Construction – by 9.2%;
- Hotels and restaurants – by 8.2%;
- Industry – by 8.0%.
At the same time, there was a decrease in electricity consumption in the transport and communication sectors (by 13.4%), as well as in trade and repair (by 9.8%).
Total electricity losses in 2023 amounted to 2.5 billion kWh.
Electricity exports decreased by 74.8% compared to 2022 and amounted to 138.4 million kWh.
