Electricity production by Tajikistan's hydroelectric power plants in the first half of 2024 decreased by almost 7%, from 10.1 billion kilowatt-hours to 9.4 billion kilowatt-hours compared to the same period in 2023, reports Asiaplus.tj.
In contrast, production by thermal power plants increased by 46.1%, from 631.2 million kilowatt-hours to 921.1 million kilowatt-hours in January-June last year.
Solar power production also increased (by 4.2 times), from 200 thousand kilowatt-hours to 800 thousand.
Thus, in the first half of the year, the total volume of electricity production in Tajikistan amounted to about 10.4 billion kilowatt-hours, which is 3.7% less than in the same period in 2023.
The share of hydroelectric power in total production decreased to 90.4% in January-June of this year compared to 93.5% in the same period of 2023.
Meanwhile, electricity exports to neighboring countries in the first half of this year amounted to $34.8 million. This is $8.6 million (19.9%) less compared to the same period last year.
