In recent years, Uzbekistan has recorded a steady decline in maternal and child mortality rates. This is evidenced by data from the Family and Gender Research Institute, Daryo.uz reports.

According to the data, in 1991, the maternal mortality rate was 65.3 cases per 100,000 live births. Currently, this rate has dropped to 14.8, representing a nearly 4.5-fold reduction over more than 30 years.

Positive trends have also been noted in infant and child mortality rates. For example, the infant mortality rate has decreased from 35.5 per 1,000 live births in 1991 to 9 currently. The under-five mortality rate has decreased from 48.2 to 12.5.

Experts attribute these results to the implementation of comprehensive maternal and child health programs, the development of preventive medicine, and improvements to the primary health care system.

According to the National Statistics Committee, 664,600 live births were registered in the country from January to September 2025. Experts estimate that the decline in mortality contributes to stronger families, increased public confidence in the healthcare system, and the creation of a healthy demographic environment.
