Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, as part of the ambitious initiative "Digital Silk Road," are combining efforts to implement a large-scale project, allocating $50 million to it. This was reported by the Minister of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan, Zhaslan Madiyev, Ritmeurasia.ru .

The joint venture of Kazakhtelecom JSC and Azertelecom LLC is preparing for the installation of a Trans-Caspian fiber-optic line spanning 370 km along the Caspian Sea floor, he noted.

The project aims to create a telecommunications corridor between Europe and Asia, emphasized Madiyev.

This strategic infrastructure project promises to be a crucial link in strengthening digital connectivity between continents.

The tender process for selecting a contractor to handle the design and laying of the underwater fiber-optic cable is in its final stages.

This innovative project will embody digital partnership between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, opening new horizons for the development of the telecommunications industry and promoting stronger economic and cultural ties between the two nations.

According to statements from the head of the agency overseeing digital development, Kazakhstan aims to universally implement the 5G mobile communication standard by the end of 2025, ensuring high data transmission speeds and low latency.

In early January 2024, telecommunications companies from both countries signed an agreement within the framework of the Trans-Caspian Fiber-Optic Line project (TCFOL).

"The project implementation will allow Kazakhstan and Asian countries to gain a new alternative route to Europe, improve network connectivity and reliability, while transforming Azerbaijan into a regional digital hub. Routing information flows between Asia and Europe through Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan will create new opportunities for digital business development in the region," noted Sergey Nazarenko, Chief Operating Officer of AzerTelecom at the time.
