From October 16, 2013 to March 20, 2019, he was the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
From March 12, 2011 to October 16, 2013, he worked as the Director General of the UN office in Geneva.
From October 1999 to January 2002 he worked as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Doctor of Political Sciences Kassym-Jomart Tokayev headed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan twice - 1994-1999, 2002-2007. He is Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador.
On June 9, 2019, he won the early presidential elections with 70.96% votes.
