Tajikistan will ban the import of used cars into the country from 2024. The ban will also apply to cars from Kazakhstan, Zakon.kz reports.

The Kazakhstan Institute of Standardization and Metrology reported on its Facebook page that Tajikistan will ban the import of vehicles from countries that are members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) from 2024. The ban will also apply to Kazakhstan.

Important clarification: only cars manufactured before 2013 will not be allowed to be imported into Tajikistan.

“Tajikistan has prepared a decree aimed at preventing the import of old cars, which are a major source of air pollution and harm to human health and the environment, as well as a significant increase in the amount of waste (batteries, tires, air conditioners) from old cars. The decree comes into force on January 1 2024,” reported the Kazakhstan Institute of Standardization and Metrology.
