The final public hearings on the construction of the first nuclear power plant (NPP) in Kazakhstan were held in Astana, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reports.
The cycle of public discussions on the construction of the NPP began in Kazakhstan in October 2023. Since then, discussions have been held in all regions of the country.
Experts on nuclear energy, representatives of government agencies and the public took part in the hearings in Astana. They discussed the current situation in the energy sector and the prospects for this industry.
Deputy Chairman of the Kazakhstan Electric Power Association Alisher Kurbanaliyev noted that Kazakhstan is expected to have a deficit of electricity and electrical capacity of about 6% by 2031. In a number of territories, the environmental issue is acute due to coal generation.
